Prep talk: Ceasar Reyes of Garfield sets school record with 420 yards rushing
""Ceasar was phenomenal," coach Patrick Vargas said."
""Pretty sore. I'll be all right.""
""I always make sure I can do anything in my power to get the team on top," Reyes said. "Nothing is possible without the offensive line.""
""His vision is impeccable.""
Ceasar Reyes rushed for a school-record 420 yards on 42 carries and scored four touchdowns as Garfield beat South Gate 39-20, clinching at least a share of the Eastern League title. The previous school mark of 417 yards dated to 1982. Reyes has 1,643 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns in eight games this season after gaining 1,520 yards as a sophomore. Garfield has used Reyes out of a wildcat formation following a quarterback injury, and his improved speed and linemen run blocking have been credited for his production. Reyes also plays defense and will face Roosevelt in the East L.A. Classic.
