The legendary Delta Breeze: Yes, it's a real thing
Briefly

On the last Saturday of May, temperatures in Isleton neared 100 degrees amid a late-spring heat wave. Residents hoped for the Delta Breeze from the Sacramento River to provide relief, especially for a grand opening celebrating Asian American history. Iva Walton, the mayor, noted the breeze's origins over 50 miles away, which can lower temperatures for the area's millions. Unfortunately, the breeze failed to arrive in time for the event, but attendees enjoyed festivities under a tent, keeping cool with fans while waiting for windier conditions on nearby Sherman Island.
On the final Saturday in May, the midday temperature in the historic Delta town of Isleton climbed oppressively close to 100 degrees during what turned out to be a mini, late-spring heat wave in Northern California.
Locals hoped that the legendary Delta Breeze would begin blowing in off the nearby Sacramento River to cool things down.
The breeze originates in the Pacific Ocean, more than 50 miles away, and meteorologists say it can bring a few degrees of relief on hot days.
Alas, the Delta Breeze didn't reach Isleton in time for the May 31 event, and people made do, enjoying the Taiko drummers and other entertainers with hand fans.
