"President Donald Trump's sweeping agenda to remake the economy and U.S. government is broadly unpopular in the Bay Area, with a majority of voters expecting the Republican to make life worse. In a poll in August by Bay Area News Group, 68% of those surveyed said they expect the Trump administration's policies to negatively impact the Bay Area, and 63% said they expect their own lives to worsen because of Trump's actions and those of his Republican allies in Congress."
"poll, conducted with Joint Venture Silicon Valley, a regional economic think tank, also found criticism of progressive policies in California. It comes as Democrats continue to search for a national path forward and Gov. Gavin Newsom, a poster child for progressivism in the eyes of the political right, positions himself for a likely run for president in 2028. In the survey, 51% of Democrats said criticisms of progressives were somewhat or mostly fair. Even more independent voters, 76%, agreed,"
A Bay Area poll in August found 68% expect the Trump administration's policies to negatively impact the Bay Area and 63% expect their own lives to worsen because of Trump's actions and his Republican allies in Congress. The poll, conducted with Joint Venture Silicon Valley, showed criticism of progressivism across party lines: 51% of Democrats, 76% of independents, and 89% of Republicans said criticisms were somewhat or mostly fair. The poll surveyed 1,634 registered voters across five counties (margin of error 2.7%). Conservatives have used 'progressivism' as a catch-all for homelessness, environmental policies, and defense of LGBTQ+ people. Newsom and top Democrats rolled back some progressive policies while pursuing reforms to reduce the cost of living. California faces sky-high housing costs and energy rates nearly double the national average.
