Update: Man arrested in hit-and-run that killed woman
The fatal hit-and-run occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, at Middlefield Road and Beech Street. Maria Perez, 72, was crossing when she was struck by a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck and was found near the intersection. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Police used the city’s license plate camera system to match the truck and located a similar vehicle parked at Francisco Gallardo Alvarez’s home. The truck was towed, and Alvarez was arrested May 28 on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run, remaining in jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail amount.
"Police used the city's license plate camera system to find a match for the white Toyota Tundra pickup truck that is believed to have stuck Maria Perez on Sunday night, police said."
