"It's just unfortunate and it is out of our control. Most of our airshow fans understand that. The Blue have been here a number of times over the years. They felt bad. They even stayed an extra day because they thought maybe, they had permission to do that. They thought maybe the government shutdown would be ended the second day. But, unfortunately that didn't happen," said Harry Wardwell, executive director of California International Airshow."
The Blue Angels will not perform at the California International Airshow in Salinas because of the government shutdown. Video shows the Navy jets taxiing on the runway before departing Salinas Thursday morning to return to their home base in Pensacola, Florida. Organizers described the cancellation as unfortunate and beyond their control; the team had stayed an extra day hoping the shutdown would end. The airshow will continue Saturday and Sunday with top civilian performers. For the first time, Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation will demonstrate electric air taxis in front of a crowd. San Francisco Fleet Week will proceed with Canadian pilots.
