The Grand Canyon faces two uncontrolled wildfires: Dragon Bravo and White Sage, burning since July and affecting over 60,000 acres. As of July 16, multiple evacuations occurred due to the fires threatening historic structures like the Grand Canyon Lodge. Conditions in 2025 forecast severe wildfire risks across the U.S.; as of mid-July, nearly 38,000 fires have burned approximately 2.57 million acres. Consequently, the Grand Canyon's North Rim will remain closed for the season, postponing access to key trails and campgrounds until spring 2026.
The Dragon Bravo and White Sage fires continue to burn close to the Grand Canyon's North Rim, forcing the evacuation of the area and causing the destruction of over 80 buildings.
Together, the two fires have burned more than 60,000 acres of land, according to the Bureau of Land Management's wildfire tracking website.
Meteorologists warned that hotter, drier conditions would escalate the risk of wildfires, leading some, including Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, to question the federal government's strategy.
The Grand Canyon's North Rim will be closed for the rest of the 2025 season, with traveler services and trails inaccessible until spring 2026.
