Carney facing some Liberal pushback over Modi's invitation to G7 summit | CBC News
Briefly

Prime Minister Mark Carney is encountering dissent within his caucus regarding his invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the upcoming G7 summit in Alberta. MP Sukh Dhaliwal articulated the concerns of constituents, particularly given the ongoing investigation into the murder of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, allegedly involving Indian agents. With significant implications for Canadian sovereignty, Dhaliwal expressed that Carney acknowledges the seriousness of this issue. While the government has taken steps such as expelling Indian diplomats, the invitation to Modi remains contentious, raising fears of Indian interference in Canada's domestic affairs.
The RCMP has clearly stated there's credible evidence Indian agents were involved in the assassination of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil. It's a bad idea to include Modi.
Carney is alarmed by the Nijjar case and is taking seriously what would be an egregious violation of Canadian sovereignty.
Dhaliwal said Carney is very strong on the issue and will represent Sikh concerns about Indian interference and transnational crime when speaking to Modi.
