Marineland in Niagara Falls remains closed nearly two months after the federal government denied the park's request to export marine mammals. The site houses dozens of animals, including up to 30 belugas and four dolphins, and sits on about 324 hectares adjacent to Niagara Falls. The park, founded in 1961, did not open for the 2024 season and is attempting to sell assets including rides while facing financial challenges. Local residents and former employees express sadness about the abandoned site and want redevelopment that restores jobs and boosts tourism, with proposals ranging from community projects to a large entertainment complex.
