Hundreds from Sandy Lake evacuate to GTA amid blazing wildfires | CBC News
Briefly

Members of Sandy Lake First Nation are evacuating to the Greater Toronto Area amid a rapidly spreading wildfire called Red Lake 12. Officials issued an evacuation order after the fire came dangerously close to the community, prompting the relocation of over 1,400 residents. Though the fire is largely under control due to recent rain and humidity, it has devastated approximately 158,000 hectares. Local organizations like ISN Maskwa are assisting evacuees. Many families, including Destiny Rae's, find themselves grappling with fear and uncertainty about returning to their homes.
"It was a very scary feeling... To know that it was so close, it was very scary," said Destiny Rae, an evacuee from Sandy Lake.
"I hope when I come back, I want everything to be where it is," Rae shared, reflecting on her feelings while looking out from the military aircraft.
