As tensions between Israel and Iran escalate, the Iranian-Canadian community in Toronto is feeling a mix of anxiety and hope. Israeli attacks on Iran's nuclear sites have provoked Iranian retaliatory strikes, causing fear among those with family in Iran. Sam Fayaz, a local supermarket owner, notes a shift in customer sentiment, with many praying for peace while expressing concerns about the oppressive Iranian regime. Many, including Fayaz, share personal experiences of conflict, reinforcing the widespread sentiment that innocent civilians are suffering the most during these hostilities.
They have a lot of family back home that they're concerned about. Everyone's just praying for the best and praying for peace, said Fayaz.
I actually lived through that personally myself as I was four at the time when the war was happening. And those memories, they get instilled into your brain, said Fayaz.
Nobody is suffering more than the innocent civilians... the Islamic Republic of Iran needs to go because it is so oppressive, said Fayaz.
Residents of Tehran were seen leaving the city. Witnesses said strong explosions rocked buildings in western and eastern parts of Tehran.
