An estimated 85,000 people experienced homelessness across Ontario in 2025, with nearly 2,000 encampments recorded provincewide. More than half of those individuals endured homelessness for six months or longer. Approximately 20,000 children and youth experienced homelessness. Northern and rural regions are the primary drivers of recent growth in homelessness. Projections indicate 177,000 people could be homeless by 2035 under steady economic conditions and nearly 300,000 if the economy deteriorates. Homelessness increased by 7.8 percent from 2024 and has spiked since the COVID-19 pandemic. Under-investment in income support, mental-health and addictions services, and affordable housing are cited as contributing factors.
