The Ontario government signed a community partnership agreement with Marten Falls First Nation that includes up to $39.5 million. That amount matches a commitment to Webequie First Nation and follows a shared prosperity agreement with Aroland First Nation. Premier Doug Ford projects unlocking the Ring of Fire's critical minerals will add $22 billion to Canada's economy and create 70,000 jobs. Access to the Ring of Fire requires building roads through First Nations' traditional territories. Marten Falls currently relies on expensive air transportation and seasonal winter roads, limiting travel and access to appointments. Fewer than 400 people live in Marten Falls, which marks the 20th anniversary of an ongoing boil water advisory.
