"The Liberals have to answer, 'Why is it that they are shutting our own youth out of jobs and replacing them with low-wage, temporary foreign workers from poor countries who are ultimately being exploited,'"
"Not long ago, young Canadians could gain vital skills in entry-level jobs, earn enough to pay for school and build a future,"
"In return, employers built a skilled domestic workforce. But the Liberals broke that deal."
Pierre Poilievre urges the federal government to scrap the temporary foreign worker (TFW) program, arguing it flooded the labour market with cheap workers and made it harder for young Canadians to find entry-level jobs. Conservatives propose creating a separate, standalone program for legitimately hard-to-fill agricultural labour while recognizing an existing Seasonal Agriculture Worker Program (SAWP) for Mexico and some Caribbean countries. Conservatives accuse the Liberal government and corporate interests of exploiting low-wage temporary workers. Conservatives cite a promised cap of 82,000 TFWs for 2025 and assert 105,000 permits were issued; the Liberal government countered that Conservative figures are inaccurate and offered a lower permit count for January–June.
