The Department of Homeland Security mistakenly sent emails to immigration attorneys, including Carmen Bello and Nicole Micheroni, stating their parole had been revoked and directing them to leave the U.S. This notification, which officials later confirmed to be erroneous, may have stemmed from their involvement with clients' parole applications. The DHS is reportedly terminating temporary parole for over 900,000 immigrants, specifically those who used the previously operational CBP One app, but this does not include those in the U4U and OAW programs for displaced individuals.
The message, which was apparently sent in error, directed both attorneys to leave the U.S. at once.
Carmen Bello, who has offices in East Boston, was the latest to receive the notice.
A DHS spokesperson confirmed to Boston.com that the agency is terminating parole for immigrants in the country temporarily.
People in the U.S. through the U4U program, which is available to displaced Ukrainians, and the OAW program, which is available to displaced Afghans, are not being impacted.
