"Several rounds of showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected with the first expected this evening. The rain combined with mild temperatures will likely melt much of the snowpack and lead to additional runoff."
"The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. Significant rainfall is in store for Toronto on Friday night into Saturday that should melt much of the snowpack, between 15 and 25 millimetres of rain is expected."
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Toronto warning of substantial rainfall expected Friday evening through Saturday evening, with 15 to 25 millimetres predicted. Multiple rounds of showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur during this period. The combination of rain and mild temperatures will melt much of the existing snowpack. Frozen ground conditions reduce the soil's ability to absorb rainfall, creating additional runoff concerns. This situation may result in ponding on roads and in low-lying areas throughout the region.
