""WE STUDENT JOURNALISTS MUST STAND TOGETHER""
""Both our publications have had their run-ins with their respective universities this summer and fall,""
""While we're pretty significant rivals-and while I might not be rooting for their football team tomorrow-we do have something in common, and we're happy to have that camaraderie.""
Student journalists from Purdue University's The Exponent delivered 3,000 copies of a special solidarity print edition on Indiana University's Bloomington campus for the out-of-print Indiana Daily Student. The front cover read "WE STUDENT JOURNALISTS MUST STAND TOGETHER" and included op-eds from editors in chief of both newsrooms and reporting on the state of student journalism at both institutions. The special edition contained QR codes linking to donation pages for both publications. Indiana University suspended the IDS print edition and fired student media director Jim Rodenbush after he refused to censor a homecoming edition. First Amendment advocates criticized Purdue and IU for curtailing student free speech.
