Critics Say Nobody Plugs In Their Hybrid. A New Toyota Study Just Exposed The Reality
A study analyzing charging habits of more than 6,000 PHEV owners in the U.S. and Canada finds that most drivers use their vehicles’ electric powertrains often. Data from Toyota RAV4 Prime (RAV4 PHEV) and Lexus NX 450h+ vehicles shows Toyota owners plug in on about seven out of 10 driving days, while Lexus owners charge about eight to nine times per 10 driving days. Only a small minority rarely plug in, with about 9% of Toyota drivers and 4% of Lexus drivers doing so. This contrasts with European findings where PHEV drivers rarely charge their batteries, potentially influenced by different incentive structures and charging access.
