F1: New hybrid rules will come into effect at the Miami Grand Prix in May
"The MGU-K will be able to deploy its full 350 kW (469 hp) in key acceleration zones, complementing the V6's 400 kW (536 hp). Outside of those zones, the MGU-K is limited to just 250 kW (335 hp), resulting in smaller speed differentials."
"Drivers can engage a boost capped at an extra 150 kW (201 hp) if they are within a second of a car in front, which should reduce their focus on energy management."
"A 'low power start detection' system will trigger warning lights and full MGU-K deployment if a car is detected to be making too little power off the line, addressing the issue of slow starts."
New regulations in Formula 1 limit the MGU-K's power deployment during races to enhance competition. In key acceleration zones, the MGU-K can provide full power, while outside these zones, it is restricted. Drivers can engage a boost when close to another car, but this is also capped. These changes aim to improve overtaking and reduce energy management worries. A new system will also address slow starts by activating MGU-K deployment if a car is detected to be underpowered at the start.
