GM Is Partially Shutting Down GMC Hummer EV And Cadillac Escalade IQ Production

General Motors will halt first- and second-shift production of the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Escalade IQ at Factory Zero between Labor Day and October 6, temporarily reducing output. The partial shutdown directly affects 160 employees, who will be placed on temporary layoff and may be eligible for subpay and benefits. The pause follows an April staffing cutback that affected 200 employees tied to slowing sales of large EVs including the Hummer EV, Sierra EV, Silverado EV and Escalade IQ. GM cites a need to align production with market dynamics as demand shifts toward more affordable EVs such as the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV. Ford and Tesla face similar demand challenges for their large EV trucks.

A GM spokesperson said the move, which is temporary, will help the company align production to match demand. "Factory Zero is making temporary adjustments to production to align to market dynamics," the spokesperson said.. "General Motors updates schedules as part of our standard process of aligning production to manage vehicle inventory."
