Briefly

The number of electric vehicle charging points in some northern England regions has decreased since early 2025, with the North East showing 95 per 100,000 people. The North West has only 69 points, while Yorkshire and the Humber has just 66. In contrast, London boasts 263 points per 100,000. Northern Ireland lags significantly with only 35 points. While overall UK charging points increased by 4%, the north has seen declines, prompting calls for standardization and improvement of EV infrastructure nationwide.
The number of charging points per 100,000 of population has fallen slightly in the North East region since the beginning of January and now stands at 95.
Experts from LeaseLoco.com are calling for more to be done to upgrade EV infrastructure across the country.
The figures contrast starkly with London which enjoys 263 public charging points per 100,000 people, while Northern Ireland has only 35.
The lack of fast chargers in London could be because most of the charging stations there are devices rated 3kW up to 8kW, which are located on residential streets.
