I was angry at the world': Damon Hill on pain of his father's death and how it fuelled his rise
Briefly

Damon Hill opens up about the emotional turmoil he faced after his father's tragic death in a plane crash in 1975. At just 15 years old, he felt unprepared to handle such loss, which he described as an emotional bomb dropped on his mother. Hill's journey into motorsports was influenced by his father's legacy, but he also battled internal anger and a longing for normalcy. The new Sky documentary captures not only his triumph in becoming a world champion but also his struggles with grief and identity following this family tragedy.
It was awful and to this day I feel the tension that I experienced...It was like having a nuclear bomb and I dropped it on my mum.
I was angry at the world... I just wanted a normal life where people didn’t give a damn about that and I could establish who and what I was.
Until then I had moments where I wept about my dad but they were rare... But there’s something about crying which soothes and having a good old sob is a good thing.
Death, at 15, seemed easier than life. I felt that immediately after the accident.
