Lights out at airport where doomed jet was supposed to land before crash that killed famous drummer, music agent
Briefly

A pilot flying a Cessna 550 Citation crashed while attempting to land at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego amidst heavy fog, non-operational runway lights, and a broken weather alert system. Despite recognizing the unfavorable conditions and debating a diversion, the pilot proceeded with landing, resulting in the aircraft crashing into a nearby neighborhood. All six individuals on board were killed, although no neighborhood fatalities occurred. Investigators will assess the accident's cause, while witnesses reported the pilot's acknowledgment of the challenging conditions prior to the crash.
"Doesn't sound great but we'll give it a go," he told the air traffic controller.
Investigator Dan Baker of the National Transportation Safety Board said officials will work over the next year to determine what caused the Cessna 550 Citation to crash.
