South Korea registered 220,177 new electric vehicles in 2025, a 50.1% year-over-year increase, and EV penetration reached 13.1%, entering double digits for the first time. The Tesla Model Y, imported from Gigafactory Shanghai, sold 50,397 units and captured 26.6% of the pure electric passenger vehicle market, with sales up 169.2% from 2024 driven by demand for the revamped model. Manufacturer results were closely contested: Kia sold 60,609 EVs, Tesla 59,893, and Hyundai 55,461, with the three brands accounting for nearly 80% of total EV sales. Imported EVs achieved a 42.8% market share in 2025.
