General Motors will import lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from China's Contemporary Amperex Technology for the first two years of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV production. This strategy is a temporary measure while GM ramps up domestic LFP battery manufacturing. The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is expected to be the most affordable electric vehicle in the U.S. and will eventually transition to using U.S.-made batteries, making it a unique model within GM's electric lineup.
