Borussia Dortmund has agreed to sell winger Jamie Gittens to Chelsea for about £55m after the Club World Cup. Chelsea's initial £42m bid was unsuccessful, but Gittens expressed a desire to join the club. Dortmund's CEO, Lars Ricken, emphasized the club's role in developing Gittens, who had a successful season with eight goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances. Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl referred to challenging negotiations but expressed satisfaction with securing the transfer, wishing Gittens the best in his future at Chelsea.
"Jamie Gittens' career exemplifies the development of top talents at BVB. We discovered him very early, signed him almost at no cost, continuously developed him in our youth academy, and provided him with playing time at the highest professional level."
"Jamie has repaid that trust with dedication, performance, and goals. His transfer back to his home country would be highly valuable for us. We wish Jamie all the best for his sporting future."
"The negotiations with Chelsea were challenging, but in the end, we are glad that we can gain planning security. Jamie is an excellent player who has brought us great joy."
