Aaron Civale was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs from the White Sox and activated on Sept. 1. He made his first appearance as a reliever, throwing three shutout innings and striking out four Braves after inheriting a 6-2 deficit that became a 6-6 tie by his exit. The Cubs rallied to a 7-6 walk-off victory. Civale began the year with Milwaukee, was traded to the White Sox after mixed starting results, and had requested a trade when Milwaukee planned to move him into a bullpen role.
Civale, claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs from the Chicago White Sox, was in a Cubs uniform on Sept. 1, activated as part of the team's expanded roster to start the final month of the season. His debut went quite well, with three shutout innings helping the Cubs stage a rally and beat the Braves in walk-off fashion, 7-6.
Civale, who began the year with the Brewers but was sent to the White Sox in a trade that's already paid significant dividends for Milwaukee, wound up across town after posting a 5.37 ERA in 13 starts with the White Sox (67 innings), with a 1.373 WHIP. He pitched five games for the Brewers this season, posting a 4.91 ERA and 1.364 WHIP, but he requested a trade when the Brewers added Jacob Misiorowski to he rotation and announced intention to move Civale into a bullpen role.
