Former Blackhawks player, broadcaster Troy Murray dies at 63
"Troy was the epitome of a Blackhawk so far beyond his incredible playing career, with his presence felt in every corner of our organization over the last 45 years. During his long and hard battle with cancer, it was often said that Troy didn't have any 'give up' in him."
"Troy Murray is remembered for not only his contributions on the ice, but for his professionalism and humility and dedication to the city of Chicago. He leaves behind a lasting legacy within the Blackhawks family and the broader hockey world."
Troy Murray, nicknamed "Muzz," passed away after a 12-season playing career with the Chicago Blackhawks and 25 years in the organization's broadcasting and alumni roles. Murray was diagnosed with cancer in August 2021 and underwent chemotherapy while continuing his broadcasting work at a reduced capacity before stepping away entirely this season. Selected by Chicago in the 1980 draft, Murray played 15 NHL seasons and won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996. He remained deeply connected to the Blackhawks organization for 45 years, earning respect as a leader and becoming president of the Blackhawks alumni association. The organization remembered him for his professionalism, humility, and dedication to Chicago.
