Knoxville’s Double-A Smokies fell 12-3 in their series opener against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Yenrri Rojas struggled early, allowing three runs in the first inning and six more after two scoreless frames, finishing with nine runs on eight hits and two walks in three innings. Jefferson Rojas hit a fifth-inning homer to make it 9-1, and Alex Madera added an RBI single for 9-2. Chattanooga then scored three more runs to extend the lead to 12-2, and Andy Garriola hit a solo home run in the ninth. South Bend earned the lone win from the system, with Josiah Hartshorn making his debut after a call-up and driving in a run on a sacrifice fly in his first at-bat.
"The Smokies took one on the chin in their series opener with the Chattanooga Lookouts (Reds) on Tuesday. Yenrri Rojas got the start, and things didn't go all that well for the 22-year-old right-hander. The Lookouts got to him right off the bat for three runs in the first inning, then after two scoreless frames, they roughed the Smokies' starter up for six more. Rojas was tagged for nine runs on eight hits and two walks in just three innings of work, and Knoxville faced a 9-0 hill to climb."
"The score remained 9-0 until the seventh inning when Jefferson Rojas got the Smokies on the board with his fifth homer of the season. Following that, Alex Madera brought in another run with an RBI single, making it 9-2. However, Chattanooga answered back with three runs of their own, bumping the lead up to 12-2. Andy Garriola hit a solo home run in the ninth, but that was it for the scoring, and the Smokies fell 12-3."
"It was a fun day for the South Bend Cubs as they picked up the lone win from the minor league system on Tuesday over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres) AND saw one of the organization's top prospects make his debut. Josiah Hartshorn was in the lineup and hitting third in the first game after his call-up from Low-A Myrtle Beach, and he made his impact felt right away, driving in a run on a sac fly in his first at bat, giving the Cubs a 1-0 lead."
