June 1 is the NHL deadline when players drafted in certain situations can re-enter the draft or become unrestricted free agents. For the Chicago Blackhawks, the only player whose rights could become an unrestricted free agent is center Riku Tohila. The Blackhawks selected Tohila in the seventh round, 199th overall, in 2022, and he has played in Finland for four seasons. His rights lapse will close the first chapter of Kyle Davidson’s first Blackhawks draft class as general manager. The organization has made signing decisions for the other 10 players from the 2022 class, including Kevin Korchinski, Frank Nazar, and Sam Rinzel, among others. Dominic James and Nils Juntorp were not signed by Chicago, with James signing elsewhere and Juntorp’s rights traded to Carolina.
