Jonathan Cannon was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox after allowing 18 earned runs in his last three starts. The team recalled rookie Wikelman Gonzalez and indicated that Tyler Alexander would fill Cannon's role in the rotation. General manager Chris Getz stated that the decision was made to help restore Cannon's confidence. In his second MLB season, Cannon had a 5.34 ERA with 35 walks and 76 strikeouts over 96 innings, having 5 quality starts including a strong outing on July 18, before struggling in subsequent games.
