White Sox can't shake Kansas City blues as late-summer losses mount
Briefly

The White Sox experienced a downturn in performance, losing 6-2 to the Royals. Starting pitcher Sean Burke struggled, giving up three runs (two earned) in 3⅔ innings. The Royals took an early lead with homers from Mike Yastrzemski and John Rave. The Sox offense was nearly silent, tallying only three hits against Michael Lorenzen. Andrew Benintendi’s eighth-inning double provided some late hope, scoring two runs but insufficient to change the outcome. This marked the Royals' 13th consecutive victory over the White Sox at Kauffman Stadium.
After a one-out double the next inning from Randal Grichuk and a walk to Nick Loftin, Burke fielded a grounder from Kyle Isbel but airmailed his throw to second base into center field, bringing another run home for Kansas City.
Burke had racked up 53 pitches by then. John Rave took Burke deep again in the third, and the 25-year-old starter couldn't get out of the next inning.
Andrew Benintendi put the Sox on the board in the eighth inning against his former team with a two-out double off reliever Bailey Falter that scored Colson Montgomery and Luis Robert Jr.
Their bats were mostly quiet again Saturday as the Royals knocked around starter Sean Burke in their 6-2 victory over the Sox.
