Colson Montgomery, a highly regarded shortstop prospect for the Chicago White Sox, returned to Triple-A Charlotte after a two-week training stint in Arizona, where he worked on improving his struggling batting performance. Although he hasn't completely turned his season aroundâhis stats from both Arizona and Charlotte have been disappointingâMontgomery's mindset and approach during his training were optimistic, according to White Sox assistant GM Josh Barfield. The team's focus is on rebuilding his confidence and skillset, setting him on a trajectory for future success in the major leagues.
He went down there with a great mentality. He really, really got after it,â White Sox assistant general manager Josh Barfield said of Montgomery's westward trip, a situation Barfield acknowledged was âdelicate.â
It was more getting him in a good spot, a good feel. And by the time he left there, he felt like he was in a much better spot than when he had left.â
Knowing that the goal was to put him on a fast trajectory to get back to where we all know he could be, and eventually back up here, I think he went into it with the right mindset, and he got a lot out of it.
Despite Montgomery's disappointing numbers in Arizona, Barfield emphasized that the focus was not on results, but rather on improving his overall game and confidence.
