The Chicago White Sox unveiled a dedication for Father Bob, now known as Pope Leo XIV, marking his attendance at the 2005 World Series opener. An installation featuring artwork of the pontiff and a broadcast image from the game was introduced in Section 140, Row 19, Seat 2. The team plans further recognition of this significant seat. Prevost, elected as the first U.S. pope, shares ties with the team as a White Sox fan, showcasing a rich history between sports and his faith-driven mission.
When people come into the ballpark, it's an interesting piece of our history and they're going to want to see it, " said Brooks Boyer, the chief executive and marketing officer for the White Sox.
A lot of this is about the White Sox. It should be more about what kind of guy the pope is," Schmit said. "You look at some of the things he's done with his missions, I mean it's incredible.
When people visit the ballpark, they will not only see a new landmark, but also touch a piece of Chicago's rich sports history alongside the pontiffâs journey.
