Despite previous challenges from strict pandemic measures and sociopolitical unrest, Hong Kong’s cocktail scene is flourishing, with 13 bars making it to Asia's top 100. The newly opened Bar Leone stands out, prioritizing a fun and inviting atmosphere, exceptional service, and approachable drink concepts. Co-founder Lorenzo Antinori emphasizes a shift towards individual ownership in bars, noting that small establishments are thriving while fine dining is struggling. The success of bars like Bar Leone reflects a changing landscape that favors personal and local connections over corporate chains.
"We're a neighborhood bar, and I think it's important to create spaces that are accessible and approachable," says co-founder Lorenzo Antinori. "After COVID, people want to have fun, and I think in the bar scene now there is definitely lots of interest in simpler concepts."
"Tourists are like a one-night stand," Antinori says. "But at the end of the day it's of course a balance between the two sides."
"Fine-dining restaurants are struggling right now, while small operators are doing well," Antinori says.
