The Federal Portal for Tariff Refunds is Now Open
"U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched Phase 1 of its Consolidated Administration and Processing of Entries (CAPE) tool on April 20 to process International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) duty refunds."
"To manage the huge volume of expected claims, CAPE allows importers of record (IOR), or their licensed customs brokers, to submit a single CAPE declaration covering potentially thousands of entries instead of filing entry by entry."
"CBP has said it collected about $166 billion in IEEPA duties from more than 330,000 importers across roughly 53 million shipments of all kinds."
Green coffee importers can formally file claims for tariff refunds through the federal government's portal following a Supreme Court ruling. U.S. Customs and Border Protection launched the CAPE tool to process these claims. Importers must have an ACE Secure Data Portal account to file. The system allows for a single declaration covering multiple entries. CBP collected approximately $166 billion in duties from importers. The agency will recalculate duties and issue refunds with interest, but the timeline for refunds remains unclear.
