WHO Monitors New Covid Variant Spreading in America and Europe
Briefly

The World Health Organization (WHO) is monitoring a new Covid variant named Nimbus (NB.1.8.1), which has emerged as infections rise globally. This variant, related to the Omicron lineage, shows mutations that could enhance its transmission and evade some antibody responses. However, the WHO assesses the public health risk as low, indicating no evidence of increased severity in disease or higher hospitalizations. Symptoms are similar to other Covid strains, and existing vaccines remain effective against it, although some immune escape can occur.
A new variant of COVID-19, named Nimbus, is being monitored by the WHO. It has spread globally but poses a low public health risk.
Nimbus may increase transmission due to spike protein mutations, but WHO finds its public health risk to be low, with no increase in disease severity.
Symptoms of the Nimbus variant are similar to those of other COVID-19 strains, including sore throat, cough, fatigue, and respiratory distress.
Despite its ability to evade some antibodies, Nimbus does not exhibit increased resistance to antivirals or undermine the effectiveness of current vaccines.
