BBVA, a Spanish bank, is encouraging its affluent clients to allocate 3% to 7% of their investment portfolios in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Philippe Meyer, head of digital solutions at BBVA Switzerland, indicated that even a small 3% investment could enhance portfolio performance without assuming significant risk. This marks a pivotal moment for the bank, which began Bitcoin trading services in 2021, as it provides formal advice on cryptocurrency investments. BBVA recognizes the transformative potential of digital currencies, having viewed Bitcoin as a significant financial innovation since 2015.
With private customers, since September last year, we started advising on Bitcoin. The riskier profile, we allow up to 7% of portfolios in crypto.
If you look at a balanced portfolio, if you introduce 3%, you already boost the performance. At 3%, you are not taking a huge risk.
With this innovative offer, BBVA positions itself as a benchmark institution in the adoption of blockchain technology.
Institutions that understand Bitcoin and digital currencies will lead the new monetary system.
