Ransomware kingpin "Stern" apparently IDed by German law enforcement
Briefly

For years, the Trickbot group, led by a mysterious figure known as 'Stern,' has perpetrated cybercrimes affecting thousands of victims globally, including businesses and hospitals. Recently, the German authorities uncovered the real identity of Stern as Vitaly Nikolaevich Kovalev, a Russian national believed to be in Russia, thus evading extradition. The group has caused extensive financial damage, leading to international law enforcement efforts, including an Interpol red notice. This new revelation provides insight into one of the most infamous transnational cybercriminal organizations.
"Fuck clinics in the usa this week," one member wrote in internal Trickbot messages in 2020 about a list of 428 hospitals to target.
"Stern's naming is a significant event that bridges gaps in our understanding of Trickbot… Stern remained an elusive character, and his real name was taboo for years."
Despite a wave of law enforcement disruptions and a damaging leak of internal chat messages, the identity of Stern has remained a mystery until now.
A recently issued Interpol red notice says that Kovalev is wanted by Germany for allegedly being the 'ringleader' of a 'criminal organisation.'
