France's Chateau La Coste hosts four decades of work by designer Marc Newson
"Newson designed a 6m-tall column, with two lobes at the top. 'It's like a giant tuning fork,' he says of the piece called Electra."
"'I chose pieces that border on design and sculpture for the exhibition, which are relevant both culturally and physically in the context of Château La Coste.'"
"'It's been all over the world,' Newson says. 'I eventually tracked it down and had it completely restored.'"
Marc Newson created the sculpture Electra for the 1996 Olympics, designed as a 6m-tall column resembling a giant tuning fork. Although it was never installed in Atlanta or Sydney, Electra has been restored and is now displayed at Château La Coste until June 21. This exhibition showcases Newson's work over 40 years, featuring pieces that blend design and sculpture, relevant to the contemporary landscape of Château La Coste. The Lockheed Lounge, dating from 1988, is among the 15 pieces included, most of which are in museum collections.
