Explainer: Edge AI
AI applications are increasingly deployed near data generation and consumption across branch offices, retail sites, and industrial facilities. Local processing avoids costly and delayed round trips to hyperscale cloud regions and supports privacy and compliance needs, especially as regulations require auditable inference for high-risk workloads. Edge deployments increase the attack surface, so low-level hardware security and centralized policy control become essential. HPE ProLiant edge servers embed a silicon root of trust in the iLO management chip to block compromised firmware, using custom baseboard management controller silicon. Edge hardware must also tolerate dust, temperature swings, weak power, and intermittent connectivity, while remaining manageable in non-datacenter environments. HPE Compute Ops Management provides global visibility for distributed environments.
