Etsy sellers aren't sure about the new ChatGPT checkout integration
"Last week, Etsy said it had enabled checkout directly through ChatGPT for U.S. buyers and U.S. sellers. The partnership means that Etsy users can browse and buy products from Etsy storefronts within ChatGPT, without having to go to Etsy's website or app. The news comes two and a half months after the Financial Times reported that OpenAI was in the early stages of integrating checkout into ChatGPT."
"An Etsy spokesperson told Modern Retail that only sellers who participate in Etsy's Offsite Ads program will have their listings included in Instant Checkout in ChatGPT. All sellers are "automatically enrolled in Offsite Ads," per Etsy, although terms and conditions say that "some sellers are able to opt out." Sellers in the Offsite Ads program have their products advertised across the web, then pay a fee to Etsy when making a sale from one of those ads."
Etsy enabled checkout directly through ChatGPT for U.S. buyers and sellers, allowing browsing and purchasing of Etsy storefront products within ChatGPT without visiting Etsy’s website or app. The integration currently includes only listings from sellers in Etsy’s Offsite Ads program, for which sellers are automatically enrolled though some may opt out under terms and conditions. Sellers reported mixed reactions: some who already use AI to tailor storefronts felt optimistic, while others worried that buyer information and business details could be lost or obscured during ChatGPT-driven purchases. The rollout remains early and awareness among sellers varies.
