The Maryland Cycling Classic will hold UCI women’s races concurrently with men’s on September 6 in Baltimore. The women’s race covers 115.2 kilometres in four laps, starting at 8:30 a.m., while the men's race is six laps totaling 172.8 kilometres. The new route features a 500-metre granite cobblestone section and a 900-metre climb in Seton Hill. Elevation gain for men is 1,732 metres and for women is 1,179 metres. Intermediate sprints will be rewarded after the first lap. The event aims to showcase Baltimore's neighborhoods and waterfront.
The inaugural 1.1-level women's race, starting at 8:30 a.m. (EDT), will cover four laps for a total of 115.2 kilometres, finishing at 11:45 local time.
Before the long, flat finish on East Pratt Street at the Inner Harbor, the men's peloton will have amassed 1,732 metres of elevation gain, while the women will climb 1,179 metres.
This new route will include a 500-metre section of granite cobblestones, twisting roads through historic neighborhoods, and a stiff 900-metre climb in Seton Hill.
Jim Birrell, the race director, emphasized the importance of highlighting Baltimore's famous waterfront and its rich history by moving the race into the city.
