Following Alysa Liu's gold medal victory in women's figure skating, Oakland is planning celebration events for the East Bay champion. A mural was unveiled in the Temescal neighborhood by Illuminaries, an East Bay artists collective, featuring Liu's likeness and the phrase "Shoutout Oakland" that she exclaimed after her winning performance. The artists funded the mural themselves. Illuminaries painter Steve Ha emphasized the mural's significance as a source of inspiration for local youth, particularly meaningful given recent departures of major sports teams from the region.
