The East Bay Skyline Trail, spanning nearly 60 years and 30 miles from Richmond to Castro Valley, showcases breathtaking landscapes including ridgeline views and redwood groves. While experienced hikers may attempt it in one day, it’s advisable to break the hike into segments for a more enjoyable experience. The trail can also be tackled as a two-day backpacking trip, with a primitive campground available. Accessible for shorter hikes, the trail provides a great escape from urban settings, with segments designed to offer unique experiences.
Stretching from Richmond to Castro Valley, the nearly 60-year-old East Bay Skyline Trail covers over 30 miles of some of the most gorgeous landscapes in the Bay Area.
It can also be done as a two-day backpacking journey, but that too requires covering a lot of ground on foot each day.
It's really going to take you away from the hustle and bustle of the more urban settings, according to East Bay Parks Unit Manager Bridget Calvey.
The team at East Bay Parks has broken the trail down into seven recommended segments, north to south, each offering something different and special.
