The casual carpool program is returning to Oakland due to increasing concerns about fall commuting challenges. Organized by the SF Casual Carpool, drivers will pick up passengers at a designated Grand Lake location to utilize high-occupancy lanes during work hours. Initial interest gathered from an online survey showed 71 riders and 24 potential drivers, indicating a viable option for participants. The first carpool will operate weekdays from 5 to 10 a.m. Volunteers will assist at the location to facilitate the launch, while the group also envisions expanding to more stops when resources allow.
