Around Berkeley: Ballet costumes, Bay Area Book Fest, bike repairs
Abra Berman, an award-winning Bay Area costume designer, will explore the history of ballet costumes on Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. The presentation traces costume origins from court dance through the grand pas deux of the Classical and Romantic era tutu. The event takes place at the Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles and costs $10. Other listed Berkeley events include a semi-annual furniture exchange and recycling program at the Clark Kerr Southwest Parking Lot running through May 31, and a free conversation at Mrs. Dalloway’s Bookstore featuring Jennie Durant’s book Bitter Honey about threats to bees. The Bay Area Book Festival returns downtown Berkeley May 29-31 with free writers’ workshops and panels.
