Vanessa's Bistro, a longtime Vietnamese restaurant run by a mother-daughter duo, faced a planned permanent closure at the end of 2025 after the landlord declined to renew the lease following 20 years. The landlord has reversed course and the restaurant will remain open, according to co-owner Vi Nguyen. The menu features Vietnamese green papaya salad with poached prawns, five-spiced honey-marinated quail, and spicy sautéed lemongrass. The bistro remains located at 1715 Solano Ave. (at Tulare Ave.) in Berkeley. The reversal preserves two decades of neighborhood presence and continuity for staff and customers. Patrons are encouraged to visit for signature dishes.
