"In a statement, Schlesinger's company said it recognizes that this news "may be unwelcome and unexpected" but that it plans to "fully honor the history and legacy of the property.""
The Brass Door, a 70-year-old San Ramon steakhouse, will close permanently after its final dinner on Dec. 24. Owner Shahla Azad announced the closure on Facebook, attributing it to an unresolvable lease dispute with the building's owner. The restaurant served as a longtime gathering place for special-occasion dinners and East Bay power lunches. In the 1960s, local residents successfully persuaded planners to reroute Interstate 680 to avoid the restaurant. The property is owned by 8 to 5 Properties, managed by Nancy Schlesinger, whose family has owned the site for 78 years. The company said it plans to fully honor the property's history and legacy.
