"On Thursday, Big Y announced that it's opening grocery stores in Fairhaven and North Dartmouth. One market will be located at Fairhaven Plaza in a building formerly occupied by Big Lots. In North Dartmouth, a market will open at the former location of a Christmas Tree Shops store in Faunce Corner Center. Both retailers went out of business after filing for bankruptcy in recent years."
"Big Y representatives said the new South Coast locations will continue the company's commitment to growth and community connection, and "reflect the company's dedication to providing fresh, local products and exceptional customer experiences." "These new stores will allow us to better serve families in the South Coast region," said Mathieu L. D'Amour, Big Y's Vice President of Real Estate and Development. "We look forward to bringing Big Y's quality, convenience and community focus to Fairhaven, North Dartmouth and surrounding communities.""
Big Y will open two supermarkets in Southeastern Massachusetts at previously vacant retail sites, one at Fairhaven Plaza in a former Big Lots building and one at Faunce Corner Center at the former Christmas Tree Shops location. Both new markets are scheduled to open in spring or summer 2027. Big Y was founded in 1936 in Chicopee and primarily operates stores in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut, with ten stores in central and eastern Massachusetts. New locations opened recently in Uxbridge and Westboro. Company representatives said the stores reflect a commitment to local products and community connection, and that hiring and grand opening details will follow.
