Parents given four months less to apply for additional needs school places
Briefly

The submission deadline to the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) has been moved forward from February 2026 to October 2025. Parents of children with special needs now have four fewer months to contact the NCSE to secure a placement for the 2026/2027 academic year. All requests must be submitted by October 1 of this year; the previous deadline had been February 1, 2026. The Minister in charge of Special Education at the Department of Education confirmed the change. The earlier deadline shortens the planning window for families and may affect arrangements for school placements and support.
